Linton Wind Farm
Local Conservatives understand the need to develop and supply energy from renewable sources, but the government seems to be concentrating on wind energy and very little else. Roger Hickford is a great advocate of tidal and wave energy, (and this can also be combined with wind energy), and he wishes that as much research and funding and grants had gone into offshore and estuary developments as it has into onshore wind farms.
A questionnaire is being sent to all residents from the Parish Council. Please do
take the time to complete and return it.
Local Conservatives do have concerns about this application. This proposal is much nearer to people's homes than most other sites. Therefore we must investigate all the issues such as environmental impact on the landscape, the effect of noise, both from an environmental point of view, and, maybe more importantly, from a safety point of view, the close proximity to Linton Village College and Granta School and the impact on the A1307.
Another area that has not be satisfactorily covered in documentation, is the visual impact that the wind farm could have on Linton High Street. In 2003, this conservation area was the only outstanding conservation area in South Cambridgeshire. The village contains 123 listed buildings, most of which are in the proximity of the High Street and we need to investigate the impact on their settings.
Your Conservative team will therefore be asking the right questions to make sure these questions can be answered satisfactorily in the forthcoming debates. We will not claim to be both for and against the wind farm depending on who we are talking to, like other parties have done!
What is your view on this application? Please let Roger know your opinion - both for and against the application and any concerns you might have.
