Roger Hickford

Roger Hickford moved to Linton twenty years ago, and now lives at The Meadows, Joiners Road with his partner Karen. He has three children, Josh and Rebecca both attend Linton Village College and Sam attends Linton Heights Junior School. He is a co-director of RH Financial and works as an Independent Financial Advisor based in Linton.

Roger is a Local Authority Governor for Linton Heights Junior School and is currently Chair of Finance and Personnel. Anyone involved in education knows that funding is an issue so recently Roger volunteered his services and reclaimed part of the playground to become a usable seating and play area as well as constructing pathways. This has enabled much greater use of the playground without any high expenditure.

Roger joined Linton Parish Council during 2004 to make a difference and get things done. Immediately he became involved with the Anti Social Behaviour issues that were plaguing the residents of the Copperfields estate. Following consultation with the District Council and Police a Section 30 order was introduced for the summer months that year and although the order was only in place for a short time this controlled the situation and to date the problems have not reoccurred with such severity, although he does continue to monitor the situation.

In 2005 the Linton district lost its Community Beat Manager and there had been considerable delay in finding a replacement. Roger fronted the ‘Arnie’ campaign which involved both radio and television media. During one radio interview, the Chief Constable rang the radio station and promised that a policeman would be found and the Linton district has had a police presence ever since.

In his spare time Roger enjoys regular walks around Linton and its surrounding villages with Karen and their three dogs, so is very aware of the issues facing the Linton and its surrounding villages.
