Eco-town at Hanley Grange
I am against this development.
I am not opposed to eco-towns in general and indeed local Conservatives have already called for the new town of Northstowe that is being built north of Cambridge be made an Eco-town.
However if these towns are to be green they must be sustainable and for this reason I believe the proposal at Hanley Grange is not acceptable. Also this location, I feel, is far too near London for it not to be used by commuters into London and therefore will not benefit local residents.
Infrastructure in our area is already under great pressure and over the next few years there are already proposals for the following developments
• 4,500 homes in the Southern Fringe and Trumpington Meadows on the South side of Cambridge (near Addenbrookes) due to start soon
• up to 5,000 homes on the Girton side of Cambridge
• up to 12,000 homes in the area around Cambridge Airport
• plus 8-10,000 in Northstowe on the A14 between Cambridge and Huntingdon
We should get these developments right, and make sure that they are environmentally sustainable before adding another into the mix
