Camping Close

How many people from Linton enjoy recreation on the Camping Close. It is a recreational area which has always been available to all the village. Generations of children have played football, cricket, flown kites and had picnics on the field.

Following the meetings with the young people, plans to install benches and reinstate goal posts on the Camping Close were initially agreed by CCC who own the land. However through obligation they had to consult with the Infant School who were not enthusiastic about the idea. It then became clear that the Infant School had another agenda - to fence off all the land north of the path!

Camping Close has been accessible to the village residents as an open space for hundreds of years, well before the County Council bought it from a local farming family. County Council officers have admitted that they have not considered the rights of the villagers when initially discussing this proposal. We are against the plans of the Infant School, and will oppose any such fencing. Thankfully Linton Parish Council is currently making an application for it to be designated a Village Green protecting it from enclosure.
