Speeding and Ratrunning

Speeding continues to be  an issue in our villages, generating  more and more complaints. Although it is not a police priority, we have been assured by them that “it is always something that is addressed in the normal course of a day’s work”. The police have agreed to update us on a weekly basis via E-cops. For those of you not registered, you can use the following link:

If you see a driver consistently speeding, as one resident from Bartlow informed the Police Panel in March, the police advised that the registration number be recorded and given to them via E-cops or the 0845 456 456 4 telephone number where they will follow up with enquiries.

We were informed at the Police Panel meeting in March that there is a scheme called Neighbourhood SpeedWatch where residents can be actively involved in monitoring speeds of vehicles through their village. This has not been rolled out to this area yet, but as soon as it is available I will inform you via E-cops and your parish council.

Rat-running I feel is closely connected to speeding. It affects all three villages of Linton, Hildersham and Bartlow and is, of course, mostly happening during the morning and evening rush hours. It only takes a minor collision on the A1307 and the road comes to a standstill with drivers who are now tired and late trying to find alternative routes. Needless to say, even with the planned speeding changes on this main road, more needs to be done to stop our villages becoming the “new A1307”.
